So you are ready to move forward with your painting project and have decided to start looking for a professional painters los angeles to do the job. The question is: where to look for and how to remove petals from professionals, high deals with low offers, references from family references and what is really needed for a high quality work as opposed to fluffy items that cost more money but do not provide additional benefits for you.

Beginning your search

There are several ways to start looking for a professional home painter.

The Internet has become the most common way people look for services and products. Most people use search engines such as Google or Yahoo to look for a home painter, plumber, electrician or handyman to ensure respect. But these search engines don’t tell the whole story and don’t distinguish a reputable, trustworthy, professional service provider from someone who just tries to make a quick money and leave you with a project that will now cost you more to have a permanent one. Do not give up the hope that there are other online resources that will help narrow the field and eliminate shy weeds. Some of my favorites are Yelp, Google Places, Kudzu and Angie’s List. Please note that not all reputable home painters are listed on these sites, just as not all dishonest home painters will not be listed, but these sites are a good barometer of how those that are listed will treat you and the type of work you can expect if you hire them. The most reputable home painters will encourage their clients to post their experiences online, so other potential clients will feel comfortable using their services.

Oral word. Obtaining references from friends or neighbours is always one of the reliable ways to choose a painter for your home. It is also one of the most cost-effective ways for a painter to generate a new business, so it is always in his/her best interest to provide quality work at a reasonable price, willing to stand up for their work and history to do so.

Better Business Bureau is another valuable resource to determine whether your painter will meet your expectations. Home painters who belong to the BBB must agree to resolve customer complaints or problems, have all the appropriate requirements for insurance and doing business in a professional manner according to the BBB guidelines. In addition to making this commitment to the BBB, each company is assessed with a class of lists based on complaints, their time in business and the size of the company. An A+ rating is a company that has no unresolved complaints or problems and has been operating for at least 7 years. Rating A is a company that has no unresolved complaints for less than 7 years. Please note that companies receive complaints, and some are from customers who have unrealistic expectations or are constantly making complaints for attention. As long as the company has solved the problem in the eyes of the BBB, you should not have any concerns. In most cases, a reputable company will resolve a customer’s complaint long before reaching the BBB.

References: My mother says that I am a good painter is not a really good point of reference unless you know your mother. Do your homework. Don’t you expect the painter to give you bad references? A good rule of thumb is to ask for a full list of customers with a backward date as far as possible and make your own random call or drive through. We always give our clients a full list of previous clients. Our policy is that we don’t know who you’ll call or what the previous customer will say or what, but if we’ve done our job well than we earn on your business and if not, we don’t deserve it.

Money: Sometimes painters demand a deposit from us to pay for the materials. The rule to follow is that you should never give more than 10% of the contract value – an estimate and limit it to $1,000.00. Depending on the size of the order, the painter can request advance payments or draws. These payments should be part of each contract and should be based on the work performed and audited. Never pay ahead of schedule or make a final payment until the work is completed and you are fully satisfied. Try to avoid paying in cash if possible. Our policy is that any work below $20,000.00 does not require a deposit and payment is due upon completion.
